Brooklyn native Matilda Marigolds walks the path that artists like Imogen Heap and Nilüfer Yanya have paved with a sound that is forward-thinking yet familiar.
Matilda first fell in love with music as a young child. Wide-eyed, she spent her school nights backstage at New York City bars and clubs watching her father from behind the drum set. She has since followed in his footsteps. Now, at 22 years-old, the multi-instrumentalist, producer, and engineer has recently transferred from Berklee College of Music to complete her studies at The New School, and to continue growing her artist project in her hometown.
Matilda now returns after a year-long hiatus following this pivotal transition. Her new single “MOSQUITO,” is a very deliberate left-turn in her discography. “MOSQUITO” maintains the apathetic sentiment that fans of hers have grown to love and expect, while bringing listeners into unexplored sonic territory.
During her time at Berklee, Matilda was not only recognized as the Popular Music Institute’s youngest artist alumni (2021) but also named "Berklee's Best New Artist" (2023) and awarded the Songwriters Hall of Fame’s Abe Olman Scholarship for Excellence in Songwriting (2024). With her singles featured on Spotify’s Lorem and Fresh Finds playlists, a collaboration and supporting tour with LAUNDRY DAY (culminating in a sold-out show at Webster Hall), and standout performances at Bourbon & Beyond (2022) and SXSW (2024), Matilda has established herself as a rising force, and is eager to continue to fuel the flame she has been carefully tending to for so many years.
